Kanye West’s unveiled Yeezy season 5 at a show on Wednesday the 15th at 3pm at the Pier 59 studio during the New York fashion week. This fifth clothing collection seems to have receive much more approval and praise from most of the fashion critics to be his best work so far in the industry. The YEEZY clothing line has frequently received backlash from mainstream fashion editors not only because of the designing aesthetic but also how the shows are organized frequently characterized by delays, the controversial use of only multiracial models in his season 4 show also known for fainting models due to overheating during the show.

Well, this time around Kanye returned with a more calm and subtle show in a dark hall that lasted for 15 minutes. Instead of the traditional live models, Yeezy season 5 was presented on a large floor to ceiling screen giving a full detailed 360 view of each of the looks.

Yeezy season 5 collection slightly differed from the “post-apocalyptic” looks which have been characteristic of the past collections and it appeared to be more wearable and practical with a lot of athletic pieces. The collection was made up of earth colours, camo variations, burgundy, turquoise with the special addition of washed out denim. The theme collection was based on is the California neighbourhood where Kanye resides and it is clearly represented by “Calabasas – lost hills” on some of the pieces.

Looking at the pieces, it is evident to see the Adidas brand logo and its trademark three stripes feature more pronounced in this collection than in the past Seasons. Perhaps this is as a result of more influence by Adidas who recently revealed plans to expand the Yeezy brand with new stores.

Kanye received positive reactions from a lot of people worldwide by debuting IMG’s first hijab model, 19 years old Halim Aden. It was a much appreciated gesture by Mr West given the current racial turmoil going on in the US and the world in general.
